Welcome to the Libertarian Party First Nations CaucusIt is often overlooked that self-government in America was practiced by Native Americans long before the formation of the United States. And yet, Native Americans faced centuries of struggle before acquiring full U.S. citizenship and legal protection of their voting rights. To this day Native Americans are still severely underrepresented in the U.S. government, fall victim to voter suppression, and continue to have their Tribal sovereignty undermined by the federal government. We are a caucus dedicated to righting those wrongs and attaining liberty and rightful representation for the 574 Indigenous sovereign nations within the borders of the United States.

Indigenous AmericaIn 1934 the Indian Reorganization Act set the framework Tribal sovereignty in as it exists today. Tribal sovereignty refers to the right of Indigenous Americans and Alaska Natives to govern themselves. The U.S. Constitution recognizes Native American tribes as distinct governments and they should have the same powers as federal and state governments to regulate their internal affairs.
